ya thats me in cuba.... there might be one of my brother in there as well.... ya the water colour man.... could see huge fish and crabs or turtles wizing around under neath as you cruzed along!!!! it was awsome!!!!
Ok maybe a should have said on H2O instead as I have gone out in the snow but, never really had the right gear or conditiond to really have as much fun as on "liquid" water. This year I have a 9m and it does look pretty good out there today so I may be out tomorrow if I can. Where is Bass lake anyway?
Cool. Bass lake is up in Orillia. I wanted to go to downsview park this afternoon - but didn't have the time. I have a 12 I tried to use a couple weeks ago - but after going through the ice 2ce we went for a farmer's field. By then the wind was way too much for the 12 - plus very turbulent - very hard to control. Finally packed it in :-(
This weekend looks perfect. Take some pics/video if you go
I just got back from Deer Valley and while going through some emails, I noticed the invite to Open Kite had made it to my junk file, so apologies for not getting back to you sooner.
Even with no snowboards allowed, Deer Valley was amazing! I hired some carving skis for the week and had a blast on them until I kissed a tree on the last day:)
Thanks for the offer of hard boots and board....would be great...I’m just not sure when I can get away to give it a shot. When does the winter season typically end in TO?
Depends on what it is people want and time of year. Ocean Rodeo is pretty standard for the newest gear, if I get a few guys interested in ordering a bunch of stuff than I can always do better on price saving on shipping costs etc. All dealers are supposed to adhere to a strict pricing structure but a few stores will advertise below what they are supposed to - often not having gear, just to get you in and sometimes give the sales pitch to get something else. I try to at least match the other dealers but give a good personal service where I can helping the friends that kite together and support each other in some ways. When new gear comes out sometime OR have some sweet discounts to clear out that I can pass along.
For Peter Lynn it varies depending on stock and what's hanging around for a while and if something new is out.
Prices change a lot on new gear orders with shipping costs going up all the time and the exchange on the Euro so I'm never 100% sure what distributor prices will be until a shipment arrives.
There are quite a few people that have bought gear through me and usually if someone is getting new gear they let me know of used gear and I put people in touch. Always welcome to try out anything I bring with me anytime.
hey man... the new injury is doin ok... just got back from the doc had to get more X-rays... and get the stiches out!! and a nice new cast!!! in 4 more weeks ill get to put some wait oh her.... then alot of theropy i hope i get to enjoy the windy season but we'll have to see.... thanks for askin dude!!! you gotta get out to LP and away from them crouds for a sesh!!!!!!
Thanks for the note, Andrew. We spent 7 days in Aruba, I kited for 4 of them. I took 2-hour lessons each day. Water was amazingly warm and shallow for a good distance from shore. Off-shore winds were not ideal, but the kiting school had boats to get us if we got too far. I learned to launch the kite from water (I felt like I must have done it at least 50 times). Keeping the kite in the air was a challenge. I felt over-powered at 20 knot winds (7.5 m Naish Cult kite, but I only weigh 115 lbs). Nevertheless, I did get up on the board (that's me in the picture), even on the 4th day, when we got some big waves. I just need a nice shallow spot around here to practice. I guess Sauble would be the best, but it is a 3-hour drive from Burlington. I was thinking of trying Keswick. Lake Erie is also quite close. Any recommendations?
Thanks for the pointers! I brought my kite back from Aruba, got the board, harness and semi-dry suit in TO. I'm still shopping for a hood, booties, gloves and a life vest before I get out there. Hopefully in a couple of weeks... Just read about the tragedy in Hatteras. A sobering reminder of how dangerous this cool sport can be.
Was in Cabarete DR last month, 85 degree water has spoilled me!!! I only have a warm water, basic wet suit now so the lake is prob a bit cool for me yet? Not sure. May go for a drive to LP to see who is out and get the scoop on wet gear for these temps.
I started with a trainer last fall, had a beginner lesson in Hatteras in Nov, and had a few sessions with skies on the snow this winter, locally. Cabarete was my first actually "go anywhere on the water session." I think I'm hooked!!!
Photo is actually wake board photo from couple years ago.
I'll be at the Sandboy this season.
Derrick put me in touch with Craig, who told me of this web site.
Look forward to meeting you soon.
