Almost completely off topic

I just had to post this photo of me riding this wave produced by FlowRider. The thing was on display at the Ex. What a rush. I guess my experience on a kiteboard and surf board came in handy because a lot of the other people trying it had real trouble getting up and riding. It would be cool to have in your… Continue

Near perfect

I would have been content with 16M cruising but it turned out to be great 12M conditions at Port Weller tonight (Tuesday). Rock solid. Had to depower the kite a bit. Some nice wave faces at a couple of the sand bars closer to shore for ripping and slashing. Some nice swells farther out for big boosting. A local guy had tried earlier with his 16 and gone home then he came back for the fun with his 12. There was still a bit of a breeze when the sun went down. Continue

Port Weller Friday

Port Weller was good today (Friday). The westerly direction made it just enough side on for some breathing room from the beach. A few riders but not too busy. Satisfying overall even though a bit up and down. When I arrived at 4 the wind died a bit so I rigged my 16. Then it picked up... so you should always have somebody at the beach pumping up a big kite! I was the last one leaving at 7 when a local guy arrived. His wife drove to meet him at the beach and launched his kite for him. Nice! What… Continue

Turkey Tuesday

Rocked Turkey Point for a nice, solid ride on Tuesday night. Beautiful side- to side-onshore direction from the north east. And mild: I felt over-dressed in a steamer. Rode almost till 9 o'clock! Continue

Saturday LP

I guess almost everybody was too tired from riding on Wednesday and Friday to come out today. Breeze was light so I surfed a surf board with a 16 with long lines for a while. Martin said it would pick up and it did so we ended up having a good session. Martin was on an 11 but that's a bit misleading. Simon, Alex, Cat (sp?) and Dan were also out and a guy with a huge motor home. Oh, and you guys who were kiting on the bay today: don't think you can keep it a secret because everybody could see you… Continue

Back on the water

It was nice to be back on the water (in Ontario) yesterday at Long Point. Martin seemed to be the guy scoring with the wind...at 7:30 in the morning! But he seemed to know the doming secret: get there early, before the land warms up. Clay and Josh enjoyed themselves on big kites before it shut off before noon. But by 12:30 it picked up again for solid riding. When it started to go iffy again I put on line extensions, the secret weapon of spring doming. I was fully powered with the extensions and… Continue

Days in Rodanthe, part 2

Still scoring session after session here in Rodanthe, North Carolina. A strong NW built up stronger during the afternoon yesterday as we put seven kites in the air for a big downwinder together. A north blast today looks a bit scary but we'll see if it settles down this afternoon. Continue

Days in Rodanthe

Some of the Long Point people are having a good time in Hatteras this week. We arrived late afternoon on Friday to a ton of wind, for a good introductory session. Saturday saw a good, solid westerly. Easter Sunday brought in a front, pumping lots of wind from the north, fuelling a good downwinder. Three days in a row sounds too good to be true. More wind reports to follow, we hope. Probably even some photos. Continue

Sunday

No one else was there so I'd better tell everybody about it. The forecast was touch and go this morning but the radar showed the rain might clear. I had my doubts as I left home in the pouring rain. As I pulled up to LP the skies cleared but...no wind! Hardly a rustle in the trees. (I sent a text to John V. and he turned around and went home. I feel kind of bad about that because I did tell him 1/2 hour later the wind picked up but I guess it was too late) The flags started snapping and I knew i… Continue

Sturgeon Lake Goes Off

Great sesh on Sturgeon Lake (family gathering) on Saturday. After the lightning ended I was lucky to get in a session. It was a tricky launch, with an onshore breeze and trees along the shoreline. I assessed the wind strength to make sure that it wasn't dangerous, even though the launch was a bit dodgy. I clawed my way upwind to get some clearance from land to score some (awesome) jumps. There were a bunch of family members and other cottagers to form an audience. I don't live for an audience bu… Continue

new video

I've added a new video for anyone who is interested: Long Point on the last day of May. I've got to secure the camera better but you get an idea of the texture of the water, with the lighting at that time of day, and a glimpse of the beach from the air (the kite, that is). I hope to include more riders next time. Cheers--Ted Continue
