Standup Paddleboarding (SUP)

Standup Paddleboarding (SUP) is 'the' hot surfing variation now. Using a massive 12+ foot board and an oar, a stand-up paddle boarder can paddle over flat water or glide into waves way before anyone else has a chance of catching them. You can ride an SUP anywhere from Lake Michigan to Makaha, and the work-out is sick.

Hey Jae, I hope that I can get out on the weekend. The wind looks good and the waves are probably going to be good and big as well. Hope it works out. Life if pretty busy these days. We will see. Cheers, Doug.

Hey Jae, here are the phone numbers of the places that rent boats. Old Cut Boat Livery 519-586-3302 and Sandboy Marina (at the corner) 519-586-2006. Old Cut still had their boats in the water, but when I checked out both of these places in the middle of the day on Monday, there was no one to be seen. Who knows, there may be people there on the weekends, or they may check their answering machines. Good luck, and try not to get shot by the hunters at this time of year. To a drunk redneck you might look like a big duck or a dear!!

Hey Jae, there is a place that rents boats out at Old Cut. That is down the first left after the free beach parking (Old Cut Blvd) and then your second right (Rogers Ave.). I think that they also rent boats from the marina that is right at the corner as you come off the causeway. I don't know if the boats will still be for rent that late in the season. I will try to get more info and phone numbers when I am down at LP for the major winds early next week. I am hoping to kite Monday with west wind around 30kts, and then SUP Tuesday after the wind shifts NW (offshore - easier paddling, hopefully). The swells should be quite large after 24 hrs of 30+ kts. Going to take a beating, but it should be fun!!

Sunday is out for me. Stuff going on all day. Looks like flat water at LP Sunday. Saturday at Turkey would be better. See if the family can have the bbq that day, and you will already be there ;-)

In case you didn't know, you can rent that type of boat at Long Point for about $50 for half a day. Just in case you are at LP and there is no wind. Could rent a boat like nothing is up, and meet the SUPers out in the bay for a little towing action. I think you can get ones with 25hp as well. Something to think about.
Cheers. Doug.

Your California session sounded like mine. The swells were still big enough that they were breaking at the second sand bar, and they were peeling down the line about 50 yards or more. The wind was blowing offshore, so it felt like when I was taking my surfing lessons in Santa Monica last November. Once you caught the wave, the board was accelerating full speed. Tons of fun. I need to get in better shape for those sessions, because I wore myself out trying to get back outside once the ride was over. The fall should be good - kite the 30 knot days, and get out and SUP the next day when the swells are still pumping and the wind has gone. Double the fun!! Hope to see you out there in September. Cheers. Doug.

Hey Jae, yeah I got out last Saturday. The waves were pretty mellow, but ridable. It was nice to get out and not have to fight the wind all the time. I am trying to get to LP today to kite/SUP, but I might not have time. My plan is for a dawn patrol to LP Sunday to again catch the remainder of Saturday's wind swell. Let me know if you are planning on heading down this weekend.
Cheers. Doug.

Hey Jae, the wind and swells are pumping all day today, but I can't get to LP until Sat. am. I am planning on heading down early when the wind is light but hopefully the swell is still there for a SUP session. Interested in joining me?
Let me know. Cheers.
Doug.

My family and I will be at Killbear from Wed to Fri that week as well. We are bringing the canoe though, so no SUP. Are you bringing both of yours? ;-).
I e-mailed the guy about the dates of the T.O. SUP race, so we will have to see when it is, and if I am available to go. Cheers. Doug

Hey Jay, Thanks for the info. I have found lots of good info on the links that are at the bottom of Rogue Wave's SUP page:
http://www.roguewaveboards.com/?page_id=150
You will recognize my board and paddle there. At the bottom are a bunch of links that are pretty cool. The one for the standupzone.com is great for pissing away hours of time on the internet!!
If the wind forecast on i-kitesurf holds, the waves on Sunday at LP are going to be great. Let me know if you are going to be there on the weekend.
Cheers. Doug
