keswick or minets - showing high teens low 20s. But Huron/Georgian bay are showing high 20s. Temps will suck ass - air temps of low 40s/high 30s! I got a gul infra with a fleece suit They're on sale at $399 at silent.

Tic Toc

It wasn't supposed to be that windy today. It was just going to be another rainy, but warm day. I went out for lunch to realize it was beautiful, warm, and WINDY. I checked iwindsurf.com and it was looking on. I decided to go to Keswick.

As I left the house it was 18 degrees! In the car it showed a little cooler. It was strange, around Aurora I watched the thermometer plummet from 15 to 8 degrees in two minutes. Then came the rain. By the time I got to Keswick it was 6 or 7 degrees and not 18!… Continue

Another Consolation Prize

Last week I went nuts watching the huge wind on Tuesday that I couldn't enjoy because I had to work. Well, yesterday was another epic day I couldn't ride! I saw some gusts into the 50Mph range! Keswick was blown flat and guys were out on 7's while I worked.

WTF???

Dear Mr. Trossman,

Thank you for your email of May 13, 2009, providing your concerns with respect to kiteboards and sailboards in the proposed Small Vessel Regulations. I appreciate your taking the time to comment on this matter.

There has been some public misunderstanding regarding the treatment of kiteboards under the Small Vessel Regulations. Currently, under the existing Small Vessel Regulations, kiteboards are required to carry the same safety equipment as any other vessel. There are no s… Continue

9 Degrees, 7 Millimeters and Two Tylenol #1's

I was going crazy watching the trees blowing like stink on Tuesday while I had to work! It looked like an epic day - check it out at Keswick:

The forecasts showed that Wednesday would be nearly as good, so I did my best to clear my calendar. I managed to mostly clean it up. But then Wednesday came with a wint… Continue

Back to Back Simcoe Sessions

What a nice surprise, calling for decent wind a day after a decent sesh. It was gorgeous out. I got to wear my shorty! I got to Keswick and Dave and another guy were on the water, but there wasn't much happening. Occasionally there'd be a puff and Dave would take a run. There were a bunch of windsurfers with big sails and mostly shlogging.

As the kiters left the water, I got in. I could barely fly the damn kite. I dragged myself out to get out of the shadow. I was going way down wind too. All o… Continue

Bay Area is nice - consistent winds from march to october and lots of different conditions to ride. Where are most of the people on this thread kiting/what's your location?

Thanks for the information Andrew. That really gives me a good idea of how to decide where to ride depending on conditions.
I live in Burlington, but I work in Toronto, so there may be some opportunities to kite at Keswick or Cherry beach or Ashbridges Bay after work or for the afternoon.
If I'm home, it looks like the best choice is Lake Erie most of the time, either LB for S to W or Turkey Point from N to E to SE, or Lake Ontario at Port Weller on NW and N.

Hi Andrew,
I was kiting at Keswick on Saturday May 1st. The wind was gusty. 5 - 50km/h. I was powered on a 9M when it was blowing.
It's the first time I've ever kited at Keswick. Do sail here often? Is it always this gusty? Someone also mentioned another spot 20 minutes farther north near Beaverton. It would be on the main part of Lake Simcoe. Would it be a steadier wind there? Is it still just as small a park?

It was doming a bit in the early morning, but by 11 am the wind picked up and we had a great afternoon. Did you see the video I posted? We had about 10 kites on the beach. Most people used their 12m. When it's blowing hard, I find the waves too distracting. They keep crashing me down when I try to get up on the board. The waves at Turkey Point are better, but you need the right wind (N, NE). I am planning to try Keswick one of these fine days.

Hi Andrew. You kited on Keswick on Sunday? I thought there was no wind anywhere? We were out on Saturday at Long Beach. How is Keswick for beginners? Is it a good spot for learning?

Was in Cabarete DR last month, 85 degree water has spoilled me!!! I only have a warm water, basic wet suit now so the lake is prob a bit cool for me yet? Not sure. May go for a drive to LP to see who is out and get the scoop on wet gear for these temps.
I started with a trainer last fall, had a beginner lesson in Hatteras in Nov, and had a few sessions with skies on the snow this winter, locally. Cabarete was my first actually "go anywhere on the water session." I think I'm hooked!!!
Photo is actually wake board photo from couple years ago.
I'll be at the Sandboy this season.
Derrick put me in touch with Craig, who told me of this web site.
Look forward to meeting you soon.
